Things to Do Before You Move

Moving Interstate is a big deal. Choosing to uproot your life, your home, your kids and pack everything up and move it to a completely new location takes some guts. If you’ve had the guts to go ahead and do that, then congratulations to you because not many would be brave enough to uproot their lives and do that.

There’s a lot of planning that goes into moving Interstate. It’s not just a case of packing up, grabbing a removal van and moving around the corner. You have to make sure that you have a job when you move, potentially, you have to make sure that you have a house waiting for you.

If you’re renting, you potentially also have to look at selling your car online so that you can buy a new one in your new state rather than try to drive up there, especially if you need to take a flight to get your new home. Making sure that you plan early is important when you are moving Interstate, so we’ve got a list of things that you should be doing before you move.

1) Get to know your new state. If you’re moving a few states away, you’re going to need to do some heavy research before you get there. You need to know everything from the climate to the culture, the laws, and the lifestyle. If you’re from a main metropolitan city and you’re moving to a state in the sticks where you’re going to be living on a farm, there’s going to be a bit of a culture shock for you. Understanding that shock is important before you get there.Immersing yourself in packing is one thing, but there’s no point packing all of your summer clothes to go somewhere cold. So selling all of those clothes and buying winter clothes before you go is a great way to save some time, save some money, and save some packing space.

2) Crunch the numbers. Finances are an unavoidable topic when it comes to moving. It costs a lot of money to move from one state to the next, but with the right planning and the right budgeting, you can do it so it doesn’t break the bank. Setting yourself a moving budget includes the costs such as hiring moving companies, renting a moving truck, and also costs like packing supplies, connection fees. It’s so important that you shop around here and you should never just settle for the first moving company that you find. Gaining quotes from various companies can help you to balance your budget better and compare their services and prices.

3) Think about education and health. If you have kids, you need to make sure that you’re living within spitting distance of an urgent care center, hospital or doctor’s office just in case. And you also need to make sure that you’ve done some research on the local schools. If you are moving to a state that is gun friendly then you’re going to need to ensure that your kids are safe when they go to school. So this is something you should be pre planning before you choose which state you want to move to.
