Now that world is finally opening up and people are going back to work in their offices, it’s time to revisit the necessary safety protocols that will keep you safe in the working environment.

If like many people, you’ve been working from home for the last 18+ months, chances are your work environment or office space has changed –many employers had to modify the workspace for the post-covid era. You have to take all the necessary precautions.

However, if in spite of all your efforts at safety, you’re still injured, you should take some steps immediately to get compensation and prevent financial ruin

Seek Medical Help Immediately

The first thing to do is see if you can get to safety. Once clear of any further dangers, call emergency services and inform them of your accident. Describe the location and tell them what could be wrong. If a phone isn’t within reach or your injury is serious, call for help.

This will get people nearby to come to your aid and call emergency services for you. The important thing is to get medical help as quickly as possible. And even if there are no injuries just make sure you get checked out by a doctor –preferably yours.

Inform Your Supervisor or Someone in Charge

If you don’t have a supervisor, just inform someone in management who is your boss. Depending on your state, you can either put in a written notice or just do it verbally.

It’ll be acknowledged and accepted. Just make sure that there’s formal documentation of the incident. And remember to do this as soon as you can.

If you don’t report the incident very quickly, it may be difficult to prove that you sustained injuries while at work or on the job. Also, check to see if there’s a safety board in the workplace. If there’s one, you should inform them.

File a Worker’s Compensation Claim

Depending on the severity of your injuries and a possible loss of income, you should file a worker’s compensation claim with your company.

Consult with a personal injury law firm before doing this though, as you want to make sure that you can get fair compensation for your injuries, pain and suffering, loss of income, and other claims.

The good news is most companies already have workers’ compensation insurance policies available for situations like this. So, you can pursue the compensation without fear of reprisal or discrimination.

If the company doesn’t have worker’s compensation coverage, then you may have to file a claim at the industrial court in your state. Just make sure to see what’s obtainable in your state and do what you need to do.

Conclusion

If you do the above, chances are that you’ll not only prevent others from becoming victims of the same mistake or error, you’ll make the workplace a safer one for everyone involved.

And a safe office is a healthy one that boosts employee morale and helps them do the best work possible.
